As a real estate coach, I often get asked about my journey in the real estate business. One of the topics I rarely share is why I decided to quit my first real estate team despite the fact that I was making money. This decision was pivotal in shaping my career and business philosophy, and I believe it holds valuable lessons for those of you who are striving to make $150k or more in your business. Here’s my story and the insights I gained from this experience.

My Early Days in Real Estate

I began my real estate career with a lot of enthusiasm. Starting in July and getting active around November, I experienced my first closing the following April. During that month, I closed four transactions, two on the same day. This success was exhilarating, and being on a team provided me with an invaluable learning environment. I didn’t need to touch the stove to know it was hot; I learned from the experiences and mistakes of others.

The Benefits of Being on a Team

Being on a team had its perks. It allowed me to grow quickly and learn from experienced professionals. My competitive nature drove me to excel. I wasn’t competing with my teammates but with myself, always striving to do better than before. However, this competitive drive, coupled with the desire to prove myself in my first year, set the stage for some significant challenges.

Realizing My Values

One critical realization that led to my decision to leave the team was understanding my core values. I value God, family, and then business, in that order. The environment I was in often conflicted with these values. While I was making money and achieving professional success, my personal life and well-being were suffering.

The Cost of Success

The work schedule was intense. I was constantly on the move, attending open houses from Monday to Thursday, answering calls, and running around Tampa. This lifestyle was not sustainable. It took a toll on my family life, with my kids often in the car and my husband left to manage things at home. Despite the financial success, I was burning out.

Seeking Balance Through Prayer

When I decided to leave the team, I sought guidance through prayer. I realized that building a successful business required more than just hard work; it needed systems and strategies. This approach allowed me to invite a sense of grace into my business operations, rather than relying solely on the grind.

Building a Grace-Filled Business

Transitioning from a team to running my own business, I focused on creating systems that would allow me to work smarter, not harder. This shift from grind to grace meant setting up structures that supported my business without compromising my values or well-being. By doing so, I could maintain a balance between my professional and personal life.

The Power of Systems

Implementing smart plans and business systems was a game-changer. It allowed me to work efficiently and effectively, leaving room for rest and personal time. This approach was inspired by the biblical principle of working six days and resting on the seventh. By aligning my business practices with my values, I found a sustainable path to success.

Conclusion

Leaving my first real estate team was a tough decision, but it was necessary for my overall happiness and fulfillment. For those of you aiming to reach the $150k mark in your business, remember that success isn’t just about the money. It’s about creating a business that aligns with your values and supports a balanced life. By incorporating systems and seeking a sense of grace in your work, you can achieve financial success without sacrificing your well-being.

If you’re ready to take your real estate business to the next level, consider how your values align with your work and seek out ways to build systems that support both your professional and personal goals. Success is not just about the grind; it’s about finding the grace to thrive in all areas of your life.
